Test description: A folder with a short text file (4 KB) and a relatively long video MPEG file (5 MB) was saved to the disk, deleted to the Recycle Bin and then the Recycle Bin was emptied. For our test, we evaluated how successfully each program recovered these two test files (Recently deleted files) and the folder. There were many files that had been previously emptied from the Recycle Bin on the disk which, in some cases, could also be recovered (Previously deleted files). Summary for the NTFS file system: All programs could successfully recover recently deleted files but without their original filenames. The folder name was changed, too. This is due to the way Windows 7 moves deleted file to its Recycle Bin. Restorer Ultimate and R-Undelete recovered more files than other programs. Summary for the FAT file system: Most programs, except Orion File Recovery, could recover recently deleted file names with their original file names. We could not recover recently deleted files using Orion File Recovery. Restorer Ultimate and R-Undelete recovered the largest number of files. EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard recovered many previously deleted files, but not as many as Restorer Ultimate and R-Undelete. For all programs, the recovered files often appeared damaged. |

Test description: A folder with a short text file (4 KB) and a relatively long video MPEG file (5 MB) were saved to the disk and then deleted to the Recycle Bin. Then, the Recycle Bin was emptied. There were many files that had been previously deleted from the Recycle bin on the disk. Brief conclusions: Restorer Ultimate and R-Undelete recovered more files than other programs, although only Handy Recovery could recover names of deleted files and folder. |
